RACE AREA - Stockholm Archipelago
CLASS - SweLYS (straight time handicap rule, normally used to compensate time
at end of race or reversed time compensation based on assumed speed and distance
with "chase" start)
The modified SweLYS allows for shared start and a shared theoretical finish
time, i.e. handicap compensation is done during the race through compensation
loops. Course to steer given in sailing instructions and distance to go
determined by SweLYS and current weather, communicated by the Sailing Committee.
START - Friday, November 7, 20:00 UTC
Start line laid between anchored committee boat and red mark at Klubbudden N
59.300 / E 18.700, NE of Stavsnäs
COURSE - Communicated 15 minutes before start of race
The course description is a list of marks to pass along with instructions about
compensation loops (CTS and DTG) and potential course changes.
COMPENSATION LOOPS
The table shows bearings and distances to go before turning back to where the
loop started (WP9).
Before approaching WP9 (loop B), the UMPIRE will communicate which column
(A-J) to use.

During the race, two loops will be required; LOOP A and LOOP B.
A loop is defined as a compensation distance starting and ending in one of the
fixed course marks with a bearing and distance to a virtual mark defined in the
sailing instructions.
The distance to go is based on the SweLYS and found in a list published 1 hour
before the race. The column to use in the list is based on current weather and
communicated during the race.
The bearing to go is a value between 0 and 360 degrees, plus / minus 10 degrees.
The outer - virtual - mark can therefore be anywhere on the arc defined by the
distance to go (DTG) together with the minimum and maximum bearing (+/- 10 deg)
to the mark.
A boat is considered to have passed the virtual mark at the outer end of the
loop when the whole boat has passed the arc.
It is the responsability of the skipper of the boat to monitor communication
from the Sailing Committee during the race to determine correct DTG.

Example of how the loops work
CORRECT PASSING OF MARK
Following the "stretched rope principle", i.e if the marks were needles on the
chart, a rope - emulating the course - would be possible to stretch between the
previous and the following mark via the mark about to be passed.
The distance at which a mark can be passed is unlimited.
FINISH
Between Långholmen and Gökskäret in the SE part of Kanholmsfjärden.
The line is 0.3 Nm, perpendicular to the track with its midpoint at N 59.306, E
18.774.
RACE COMMITTEE
Will be positioned in the committee boat RACE OFFICIAL during the race.
SCORE
Will be published during and after the race. Link TBD.
CHANGES OR AMMENDMENTS
Can be made from the committee boat during the race
CAUTIONS:
All positions given are approximate and in the format displayed by race client
program.
Correct large scale charts must be used.
Many islands are available for shelter if required.
MOORINGS: Bullandö Marina provides moorings before and after the race. The
restaurant will serve a pre-race dinner on Friday at 16:00 UTC and after the
race (and a few hours of well deserved sleep) breakfast will be served and the
leader flag will be handed over to the winning boat.
