Augustimånen online, with 440 boats signed up to start, completed on 9 Nov.
In a handicap fleet comprized of 5 different boat types ... several houndred of the best vitual skippers in the world battled for more than 30 hours to complete the most grueling race ever held online, navigating a minefield of thousands of islands to round the 9 marks and complete the 180 Nm course.
The race course, a very challenging and unusual design, incorporated 2 "virtual loops' that allowed the skippers to round the designated mark and then sail a designated distance (set by the hadicap of the yacht), at a predetermined bearing. The 2 loops added an interesting twist never before seen in a virtual yacht race.
Many competitors stayed up for the duration of the race and seemed shattered - but happy - when crossing the finish line. Others took their time and stopped at some of the islands to explore the green stuff.
"Fun and excitement!" and "Exhausting and exhilirating!" are some of the comments from CroxGirl who also concludes "THE OVERWHELMING FRIENDLY FEEL OF SOL CREATES AN ATMOSPHERE SIMILAR TO THAT OF THE CLOSEST FAMILY - SOL SHARES ITS PAIN AND ITS JOY. BEST GAME IN THE WORLD"
Sailonline, whos expertise and innovation in programming has established
them as the VERY BEST virtual sailing website on the net, will be
recognized for years to come for this amazing virtual yacht race !

FINAL NOTICE OF RACE
Augustimånen - one of the best known - and according to us - one of the most advanced and appreciated races in the Stockholm Archipelago
Mikael Ryking keeps the leader flag for one more year, again having won Augustimånen in his X-332, renamed ice.net. Congratulation!
At breakfast, after a few hours sleep, the discussions were not only about the race we had just finished but also about how to increase participation next year.
One proposal was to start a forum and continue the discussion on-line.
And- here it is...
